If the temperature and pressure of the reaction are raised above the critical point of water (temperature 374.3℃, pressure 22.05MPa), the basic performance of water will change greatly, showing properties similar to those of non-polar organic compounds. Under this condition, the reaction is called supercritical water oxidation.

Supercritical water can be completely missoluble with non-polar substances and other organic matter, and it can also be completely missoluble with air, carbon dioxide and other gases. However, the ionization constant and solubility of inorganic substances, especially salts, are very low in supercritical water, and most salts can be separated and have almost no effect on oxidation reaction.

When wastewater is treated by supercritical water oxidation, hydroxyl radical with strong oxidation ability can completely degrade organic pollutants.

The wet process technology can oxidize and degrade all kinds of pollutants without selection. Does not involve incineration and other thermal processes, high safety.
