Application direction of ORC low-temperature waste heat power generation technology

March 09, 2024

Application direction of ORC low-temperature waste heat power generation technology ORC low-temperature waste heat power generation system can be widely used in steel, cement, petrochemical, electric power, metallurgy, glass and other industries, and is of great significance to reducing energy consumption and protecting the environment. The low-grade energy (referring to energy with low conversion efficiency) that can be utilized by the ORC low-temperature waste heat power generation system mainly comes in the following forms:

1. Industrial waste heat. Recycling industrial waste heat can reduce industrial energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The flue gas emitted from most industrial processes or power plants can be used, and the temperature is generally not higher than 400°C.

2. Geothermal. Geothermal power generation uses geothermal steam or hot water as a heat source. The geothermal fields that have been surveyed and discovered in my country are all hot water thermal storage. Most of the geothermal water used is near the saturated state, and the temperature generally does not exceed 200°C.

3. Solar energy. The energy density of solar energy is low and the temperature of the heat source is not high. An organic Rankine cycle thermoelectric system based on heat collection technology needs to be used. After passing through the heat collection device, the temperature can reach 300°C. For example, flat plate collectors are used to collect solar hot water below 100°C as a driving heat source, and ORC turbines are used to form a low-temperature solar thermal power generation system, which can be used as a distributed energy source.

4. Biomass energy. Biomass energy is also one of the important driving sources of the organic Rankine cycle. The organic Rankine cycle is used in biomass power generation mainly because the organic working fluid has higher turbine efficiency when the unit scale is small. In addition, the organic Rankine cycle is also used in cold energy recovery of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Our country's development

With the development of our country's economy and various technologies, people have gradually realized the important role of low-temperature waste heat power generation systems in energy conservation. By using low-temperature waste heat power generation system, comprehensive utilization of energy can be achieved, low-temperature waste can be turned into treasure, harm can be turned into benefit, and heat loss can be reduced. By building a low-temperature waste heat system, waste heat from many types of industrial production can be collected and utilized, thereby improving energy efficiency. In the development of high-energy-consuming enterprises, through rational utilization of low-temperature waste heat, energy can be greatly saved and enterprise operating costs can be reduced.
