According to the spatial orientation of the shell and heat transfer tube bundle, the shell and tube condenser can be divided into two types: vertical and horizontal.


But no matter which type, the cooling water takes the tube process and the refrigerant takes the shell process, that is, the high temperature and high pressure refrigerant vapor cools on the outer surface of the heat transfer tube, condenses and converges to the shell. The reason for this arrangement is that the average heat transfer coefficient between cooling water and tube bundle is generally higher than the average heat transfer coefficient of refrigerant vapor condensation, which requires a larger heat exchange surface for condensation; in addition, in order to keep the pressure of high temperature and high pressure refrigerant vapor within a certain range, a larger space is also required.
